Uh oh

Never, I repeats, NEVER get on mama's bad side.  She has been yelling on the phone for most of the afternoon.  Seems as though my smart mama gotted duped by a so called insurants place, and they are keeping her money and our rent check is gonna bounce. She has called the bank, the landlord, our senator, the department of commerce, and we are stuck.  Our bank was sympathetic, but there is an NSF fee they assess. The landlord says there will be an NSF check charge from them, too, the senator's office gave us the department of commerce, and they said the place wasn't a registered insurants place in this state. The beans there found the website of the place (they claimed not to have one) and it is NOT an insurants place, and all the things they said they covered were lies.  They supposedly are registered with the Better Business Bureau, but we haven't gone there yet.  When mama cancelled the "policy" they said it would take at least three weeks.  The department of commerce said they were not regulated by the state, so we could only keep bugging them for the money. They were really nice about it.
When she called the "insurants" place to cancel, they put an answering machine on (she called three times), then she finally got somebean and asked to speak to a manager and was hung up on.  She called back, blocking our number and asked for a manager again.  He said it would take up to twenty days for them to process a refund check and they were of course, not refunding it all because of the "processing fee".
I repeat. NEVER mess with mama!!.
She did share her dinner with me (nom, nom, turkey), and now she has to go to the residents meeting this evening. She hates those.
I gots a lot of cuddling to do with her when she gets back.
Oh, wait.  The bug guy is coming to morrow.  Hope it's the nice cute one.  That ought to cheer mama up a little.

Sunday Stuff

Sunday is for Snoozing and Snuggling. Well, that's efuury day, of course.  So that's what we been doing.  Mama has to run an errand (it's only 89 degrees out. Really). But then she will be back home. She has to get more insulins for her diabetes.
We are hoping our friend Rebecca can come tomorrow and visit.  She says she can help mama with some paper work.  We are working on getting different medical insurants for mama.
Getting used to the new floor. Mama still mutters (why white). Doesn't smell as funny.  Mama said that was the gloo they used.  I thought it was tile.  So I have a gloo floor?? I thought gloo just didn't smell funny it made you stick.  I haven't stuck yet!!
Anyway, if there isn't a picture with this entry, come back in a bit.  Mama is loading the computer and will be right back with one. Promise.
AND VOTE AND COMMENT ON THE PEPSI SITE. WE ONLY HAVE A COUPLE OF DAYS LEFT FOR MODEST NEEDS!
Here's my picture: (remember I don't really like my picture took)

Friday and We are back HOME

After all day at the lounge, we are finally home.  Oh, my.  Since they are remodeling the community room on the first floor (where mama goes to resident meetings and they have bingo and special meals on holidays and sometimes show movies or have groups come in to sing (a black singer camed in to help celebrate Black History and mama said he sang like heaven gaved him lessons), or even put on plays (a college group camed in to put on Twelfth Night) they had furniture stacked all over the lounge. Mama could barely open the fridge to put in her lunch.  I gotted to sit in  my PTU on a table and look out the window.  It was nice enough to have the windows open, and I even saw some neat birdies!  The trains on that side of the building are NOISY though. And a painter camed in a couple of times, and a lady who was looking for help.  Mama, having worked for the county, knew where to tell her to call.  She was visiting in the building, but we think the person who lives here that she was visiting couldn't help her either.  So mama knew a charity where she could get help. And then an older couple camed in this afternoon with three grandbeans.  They were grandbeans old enough to be nice and not obnoxious or terrorizing, which was okay with me.
And the nicest part of being in the PTU upstairs?  Besides having lots of Dentabites? And seeing birdies, and smelling fresh air?? And having mama read part of We are the Kitties and We Writed You this Book to me?? Mama's lunch was a sammich.  Turkey and hamm!!! She shared.  Hoooray!!
Now we have a new floor in the kitchen and the pantry. Mama keeps muttering "why white?  why white?" I just think it smells funny.
Don't forget the big push for Modest Needs.  Voting and commenting end on the 31st.  We know Pepsi's sight is slow, but PLEASE VOTE AND COMMENT.  PLEASE??????
love you all

Six more Newses!

Firstest of all, please continue to vote for Modest Needs' project at Pepsi Refresh.  They need votes and comments till the end of the month and they are still # 3.  Not only do they get the funding from Pepsi at the end of the month if they are #1 or #2, they also have donors who have promised to double the amount of the funding if they get it. This is to help people on the Gulf who have been unemployed because of the environmental catastrophe of the oil spill. Most of the office stuff (processing and stuff) will be handled in their own office, with a few part-timers added, so that the expenses will be very very low (have you looked at the start up costs of some of the projects? NOT getting to the people who need help, that's for sure). The majority of the money will go directly to families who need help! Check out their proposed budget! Cool!  And, as we have said before, they helped US so, please do this small thing with us to help pay back.

Secondest of all, the Pepsi Refresh website is now very very slow. Please be patient.  It takes a lonnnnggg time to sign in and vote and comment. Walk away for a few moments after trying each step, or beans, just give us some scritchies or something while you wait. Hey, double free gives!! For us and the bean families on the Gulf.

Thirdest of all, Mama is going to her bean vet on Thursday afternoon, so she won't be home in the afternoon.

Fourthest of all,  although they promised they were done, we have to go up to the lounge and hang out again on Friday.  This time around we get a new kitchen floor, and they said the glue would be too stinky for us to stay in the partment for the day. That means Tracie isn't gonna come, and she's busy this coming weekend because she's planning to take her son to the State Fair. I miss her!

Fifthest of all: We may have to do a wordless Wednesday at this rate. Whew.  Mama might need a break.

Sixest of all: We love you all. Not new news, but still, nice.

Help, Please

I know that you will all join me in the Modest Needs campaign on Pepsi Refreshes the Gulf. I know that many have helped vote and comment. Modest Needs is now # 3 in the running. They need to be # 2 by the 31st. Please help this worthy cause! All it takes is a minute to vote and comment. We recently received help from this organization and it is true they help people who really need a relief from a crisis. They just helped US. So help us pay forward and vote. Voting and commenting ARE FREE and that lets you spend your green papers on kitty help if you feel we are a worthy cause, too. And we are. But just as you can click and help woofies and kitties get foodies, you can sign in (they won't use your email for spam! We don't get any from them!) and vote and comment and feel good about helping beans who need help in the Gulf. With a click and a comment.
We know we have been bugging you with this cause, but it is sooo dear to our hearts, and has been for several years. And we just asked for some help ourselves and got it. It felt like a small miracle and we are so greatful. We want to help the people in the Gulf, too.
Here is the last letter we got from the president of Modest Needs. It is quite touching. They need our help NOW. Please.
Here is the letter they sent to us:

Dear Carol,
I’m writing to you personally today because I have some very good news – a little sad news – and a very special, personal favor to ask of you, a favor that involves no money and only a minute or two of your time.

Because I know how busy you are, I wouldn’t be writing to you personally if it weren’t critically important. So, I want to thank you in advance for reading this note, and – more importantly – for helping me (and Modest Needs) out if you can immediately.

You probably already know that Modest Needs has been hotly pursuing a $250,000.00 grant from Pepsi. This grant will allow us to stop the cycle of poverty for thousands of persons who are newly unemployed as a result of the Gulf Oil Disaster and now stand to lose everything through no fault of their own.

For the past ten days, our rank has been stalled at number 4 (we have to be at least number 2 on 31 August 2010 to win the grant), and people have been understandably discouraged by the lack of progress we appear to have been making in our quest for this grant.

Today, I’m thrilled to tell you that we are now poised to bring this $250,000.00 grant home to those who need it most. Briefly, here’s what’s happened:

Late yesterday, Pepsi discovered that – sadly – a number of people competing for Gulf Coast grant proposals had been cheating. So Pepsi did the right thing. They completely canceled all illicit votes.

With the illicit votes gone, Modest Needs’ grant proposal has advanced to number three! In light of these developments, I am certain that, if we simply continued voting for our proposal on a daily basis we would have no trouble claiming the number one or two spot – and this grant – by the end of August.

But it is extremely important to me that we claim this grant as quickly as we can for a personal reason that I have not yet shared publicly, first, because it’s personal, and secondly, because this is news I wouldn’t want to share without the permission of the person involved.

Having only today received permission to tell you – a member of my ‘second family’ – what’s going on, I want to share this sad bit of news with you today in hopes you’ll help to wrap this competition up quickly.

To make a long story short, at present, my mother is seriously ill. Three weeks ago, after not feeling so well for a while, she finally went to the doctor. Last week, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of lymphoma. As I write this note, my mom is in surgery. If that goes well, she will begin a grueling course of chemotherapy on Monday.

Of course, it is my hope that my mom will make a complete and speedy recovery. But right now, to be honest, things are touch and go (we’re unsure how my mom will react to chemotherapy – a dangerous treatment in and of itself), so for the time being, I’m on standby to travel in the event that my mother’s condition takes a turn for the worse.

In any case, Modest Needs can operate without me just fine, even if I am temporarily called away to be with my family. That’s not what worries me.

My fear is that if I am forced to travel during the final ten days of this grant competition, many people will simply ‘forget’ to vote for our proposal, as I will be unable to send daily voting reminders while I’m away. In that case, all of our hard work would come to nothing, and I would hate to see something like that happen.

Because you support this work, I know you feel the same way.

But Carol, the good news is that, if we all work together all at once, for just one day, we have the votes to end this competition right now. In just a few hours, we can secure the number one or two spot in this competition, put ourselves so far ahead in the voting process that, even if I am forced to travel, there simply will be no catching up to us, and prove to those dishonest persons out there that cheaters never really win.

And that’s the favor I need to ask of you.

Today, I’m writing to ask you if you would please take just a few moments to join me and the rest of the Modest Needs community in voting for Modest Needs’ grant proposal at Pepsi’s ‘refresh everything’ website as soon as possible today, preferably right now, as soon as you’ve finished reading this note.

If you do, then together, we can bring this competition to an immediate and successful conclusion today. And for the reason I’ve explained, for that small gift of your time, I would very grateful to you personally for your help.

Voting for Modest Needs’ grant proposal is both easy and free. Just follow these quick directions to ensure that your vote counts for Modest Needs.

1. From a standard Internet connection (laptop or desktop), follow this link: http://gulf.refresheverything.com/gulfmodestneeds

2. When you get to this page, on the right side of the screen, you'll see a vote button. Click that button.

3. If you're already registered with Pepsi, you'll be prompted to login. If you're not already registered, you'll be prompted to register. Registration is spam free and takes about two seconds.

4. When you log in, you'll hear a sound like a Pepsi being poured into a glass. This doesn't mean you've voted. It means you're now logged in to Pepsi's site.

5. Now, click the 'Vote' button again. When you do, the vote button will change to display a message like 'Sweet!' or 'Right On!' and you'll get a message that says 'Now, why not promote this idea?' If you see those messages, you'll know you've voted correctly and that your vote 'counted' for Modest Needs.

6. Finally, please scroll down and leave a quick comment, even if it’s just two words. Pepsi is counting comments as well as votes, so this is an important step in the voting process.

Again, the direct link to our grant proposal is http://gulf.refresheverything.com/gulfmodestneeds

I want to thank you in advance, and from the bottom of my heart, for taking just a moment to respond to this very special request. Of course, your help today would mean the world to our current and future applicants.

But for the reason I’ve explained above, it would mean just as much to me personally.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support both of Modest Needs and of this critical initiative. I look forward to hearing from you soon, but in the meantime, here’s wishing you and your family more health and happiness than your lives can possibly contain.

okay, it's an older picture.  But it's a toesie one!
Yesterday we had company.  A lady camed to talk to mama.  She sounded so nice that I came and sat under her chair.  The lady said she liked kitties, but her family had allergies, so she couldn't have one. I felt sorry for her.  She was sooo nice. But I was nice and didn't leave any kitty furs on her for her family to sneeze at.

Friday the 13th

Hey, it's Friday the 13th. No big deal.  After all, my sweetie is a black kitty.  And he is good luck. And I am not superstitious, anyway.  Just cautious.
Storms are coming again.  I am catching the sun while it's here.
Please don't forget to help people in the gulf by voting in the Pepsi Refresh.  Pepsi will also help Modest Needs with their regular requests for help, too. Voting is free. Pepsi will fork over the green papers. Then you can spend your green papers helping Modest Needs or any of the kitties here on the blogosphere that need our help. Nice, no? Please vote everyday til the end of the month. Modest Needs donors will match the funds if they win. Yes!
Oh, yeah.  Mama put my litterbox in the shower again.  I kinda protested where she moved it before and started to pee on the floor, instead. Well, to be exact, where Traci decided to move it. So now it is in the shower "until I learn not to pee on the floor".
Having your own private litterbox area (the shower with the curtain partially closed) is primo. Tee hee.
So she has to move it every day for her shower.  Big deal.

AND HERE'S THE LATEST NEW NEWS FROM MODEST NEEDS.
Good afternoon, everyone!
As promised, here's today's daily update and voting reminder for our Pepsi Refresh Everything Grant. Please be aware that three VERY important, VERY short notes follows this update. Please read them. They're worth your time - promise.
Rank as of 13 August 2010: 4
Yesterday's Rank 4
Link to Vote: http://gulf.refresheverything.com/gulfmodestneeds

We're holding steady at number 4, exactly where we've been since Monday, 9 August 2010, so please remember to vote today.
Quick Important Notes:
1. I've learned that Pepsi is also counting COMMENTS for some reason. So today and every day when you vote, please post a comment - even if it's just two words. We need to get our COMMENT COUNT up as well. [its down farther on the link--comment after you vote, please, on the Pepsi site-brandi]
2. I realize that our position has not changed at all this week. Guess what? Nobody else's position has changed this week either, at least in the $250K category. This would seem to defy mathematical logic, and so I have written to the company in charge of administering the Pepsi Refresh Project to express what I think are understandable concerns. If / when I hear back from these folks, I'll publish the response, since I know we'd all be interested to learn why, with many tens of thousands of people voting for these proposals on a daily basis, none of their ranks seem to have changed - up or down - at all in the previous week.
3. Some people have suggested that they're having trouble registering their votes. Here are the instructions for voting. Following these directions will ensure that your vote is counted by Pepsi:
a. Go to http://gulf.refresheverything.com/gulfmodestneeds
b. When you get to this page, on the right side of the screen, you'll see a vote button. Click that button.
c. If you're already registered with Pepsi, you'll be prompted to login. If you're not already registered, you'll be prompted to register. Registration is SPAM free and takes about two seconds.
d. When you log in, you'll hear a sound like a Pepsi being poured into a glass. This doesn't mean you've voted. It means you're now logged in to Pepsi's site.
**
Thanks a million for your support of this very important initiative. I'll be back on Monday with another update. Until then, please remember to vote every day, to spread the word in any way that you can, and to help us bring this grant home for the people who need our help the most.

small change brings miracles

This is the latest from Modest News:

Good morning, everyone!
Here's today's Pepsi Refresh Grant challenge update:
Rank as of 11 August 2010: 4
Yesterday's Rank: 4
Yikes! We're now stalled in 4th place, and we MUST be ranked at least number 2 by 31 August 2010 in order to get this grant. I think we all knew that cracking the top two was going to be tough, but we're now seeing just what kind of challenge we have ahead of us. It will take a serious team effort to blast into the top two - but if everyone who receives this update will take just two seconds to cast a vote for our proposal today, right now, I'm confident that we can hit number three by the end of the day, and we ought to hit the top two by the end of the week!
So please, take just two seconds, right now, ASAP, and cast your vote for our proposal. The direct link is http://gulf.refresheverything.com/gulfmodestneeds And remember, you can vote again today, even if you voted yesterday. In fact, that's what it's going to take to bring this home. We're ALL going to have to team up and vote for this proposal every day for the rest of the month.
This is very, very exciting, folks! We're a stone's throw away from hitting the top two, and together, we can make that happen today! So again, please, take two seconds to vote. Then, please forward this email or the Pepsi Refresh link to your friends and family. Post to Facebook. Send a tweet. Use your blog. Tell your co-workers (if you're allowed to do that). Let's get everyone we know as excited about what we're about to achieve as we are, and then let's get ready to celebrate when we bring this massive grant home and get it out to those who need it most!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this update and - of course - for taking two seconds to vote for our grant proposal. I'll be back tomorrow with - I hope - more good news, but in the meantime, please keep your emails and comments coming. I've really enjoyed hearing from those of you who've written in to voice your support of this initiative or ask questions, and I look forward to hearing from more of you soon!
Have a wonderful day, and again, thank you so very much for your support of Modest Needs.

Help is Needed

Now is the time to help beans on the Gulf Coast, who, through no fault of their own, have lost their jobs and are behind in payments because of it.  Pepsi has a site and will contribute to charities that can help these beans. Pepsi Refresh.
Mama and I want to help Modest Needs, an organization you have seen on our sidebar for quite a while.  They are wonderful (mama's hoping they help her), and quite a great organization that helps people with little problems that can snowball into big ones.  Even five dollars will go far with this organization. It's amazing!
Here is their link for instructions to vote for Modest Needs. Vote once a day. No money is needed.  It is like hitting the buttons on your sidebar to feed doggies and kitties. Vote once a day until the end of August. Here is the newsletter that explains how to do it.
http://www.modestneeds.org/features/newsletter/
Pepsi is giving away $1,300,000 each month to fund great ideas.  The project that gets the most votes gets funded.  Please help with your clicks. This is a VERY good cause. You will be  helping unemployed beans in the Gulf Coast.
And if you have paper monies to spare, Modest Needs is very deserving in itself. As we said, mama is hoping they will help us with one of our bills, but it takes donors to do that. Small change can make a big difference, they say.
http://gulf.refresheverything.com/gulfmodestneeds is the vote page.
Modest Needs is a quiet organization that helps people throughout the United States with unexpected bills. They stretch the money donated, get matching funds when they can, and they are, as we said, amazing! They have been written up in national papers, and been on national news.
We are among those who are asking for help from Modest Needs. That is true.  But if you can 't afford the monies to help, please vote for this organization to get the funding to help beans on the Gulf Coast. Voting, as we said, is FREE.
VOTE EVERY DAY TIL THE END OF AUGUST!
love,
brandi
and mama Carol
ps please see attached: it's the latest info on voting from the director of Modest Needs-just received an email from Modest Needs.
Hello folks -

I realize I just sent out a newsletter about the Pepsi Refresh grant, but in the hour or so since that update went out, I've gotten literally hundreds of responses saying 'How do I know my vote counted?' or 'I had trouble using Pepsi's website,' or something to that effect.
I know you want to make sure your vote counts for Modest Needs, and truthfully, Pepsi's website, while it's really pretty, is not all that easy to use. So here, in less than 300 words, is how to make SURE your vote for Modest Needs' grant proposal counts:
1. Go to Modest Needs' Pepsi Refresh webpage. The direct link is http://gulf.refresheverything.com/gulfmodestneeds
2. When you get to this page, on the right side of the screen, you'll see a vote button. Click that button.
3. If you're already registered with Pepsi, you'll be prompted to login. If you're not already registered, you'll be prompted to register. Don't worry. You don't have to give away any personal information to register except for your date of birth, and I think that's because Pepsi wants to know something about the ages of the people who are voting. I can tell you that I've been registered with this site and voting for projects since the beginning of the year, and I have not received a single email from Pepsi.
Registration is also necessary to ensure that the voting is fair. Persons are allowed only to vote ONE time per idea per day. If you try to vote more often than that, the website won't let you. And that's a good thing. Otherwise, unscrupulous organizations cold pay people to sit around and click the 'vote' button 24 hours a day - and that wouldn't be any good for any of the grant applicants. So please, don't be worried about the registration.
4. When you log in, you'll hear a sound like a Pepsi being poured into a glass. This doesn't mean you've voted. It means you're now logged in to Pepsi's site.
5. Now, you can click the 'Vote' button. When you do, the vote button will change to display a message like 'Sweet!' or 'Right On!' and you'll get a message that says 'Now, why not promote this idea?' If you see those messages, you'll know you've voted correctly and that your vote 'counted' for Modest Needs.
That's it! Once you've registered with Pepsi once, you can click the direct link to our grant proposal, log in, and vote once per day. And remember, every vote counts!

One last thing: For some bizarre reason, the special 'Gulf' grants" cannot be accessed via mobile phone - none of them. So in order to vote for our proposal, you'll have to use your desktop or laptop computer. I'm going to write to Pepsi to see if they can fix that problem but for now, if you couldn't get to our grant page because you're on an iPhone, for example, that's why.
I hope this information helps all of you who may have had trouble voting or wondered if your vote counted, and I hope you'll forgive this second newsletter in a day. If this follow-up weren't important, I certainly wouldn't have sent it.
I've really enjoyed reading your comments & look forward to hearing from more of you soon. I'll be back next week to let you know where we are in the rankings, but for now, please, let's work together by voting, and voting often, for this very important grant. Together, we can do this!

Monday Madness

Mama said this little song would make older beans crazy:
Down in the meadow
in an itty-bitty pool
swam three little fishes
and their momma fishey too

and the chorus goes:
Boop, boop, didum, dadum
waddum choo,
Boop, boop, didum, dadum
Wadum choo,

Swim, said the momma fishey,
Swim if you can,
And they swam and they swam
right over the dam

Now maybe she can get it out of her head.
Beans are silly, sometimes.  What a silly song. Mama said it's older than she is.  That's old!

Happy Monday, all. I'm gonna take a nap and hope that mama will have stopped singing that song when I wake up.  Fisheys are nice to dream about, though...
